High points of your life since high school?

Graduated from USC School of Nursing in 1972 then obtained my BSN in 1976 from Georgia State in Atlanta. I retired from nursing at the age of 70 and I worked as a nurse for 50 years. I retired after the past 33 years in the Burn Unit at the Joseph M Still Burn Center in Augusta. I married a little later in life than some of my classmates, but it gave me time to travel some out of the country and I lived in Atlanta and Virginia for awhile before coming back to South Carolina where we raised our family.

What do you like to do in your spare time? Hobbies?

I am very active in our church and I enjoy playing in the handbell choir and I started a blanket ministry making no sew tie fleece blankets for the homeless and abused children. I have a she shed and I enjoy doing many crafts in "Nana;s Nook." (That is what I named my shed. )Sorry I missed last time but it was rescheduled for the weekend before halloween and that is one of my favorite holidays. We live in a designated trick or treat neighborhood and we have 500 plus kids who come, so its kind of a big deal. I live on Pinterest months before and decorate like its Christmas. Retirement is fairly new to me and its a work in progress finding my daily purpose but I am still learning and finding new outlets and adventures.

Who were your favorite teachers?

I wouldn:t say he was my favorite teacher but I have fond and funny memories of Col Roberts. We were assigned seats alphabetically and I sat next to my good friend Susan Rawl . She was the star student who he gently patted on her curly head and asked why we couldn"t all be like her and then he would swat me on the top of my head with all the graded test papers and yell no!,. you are all a bunch of plumbers.! I somehow made it through and became a nurse , not a plumber. I don"t remember her name but I have said many times after hospitals went to computers, "If I had known computers were going to be a thing in the future I would have typed "the brown fox jumped over the lazy dog in typing class a little faster and more accurately". Sadly I speak just enough spanish to sometimes get myself in trouble but I enjoyed Mrs, Bumgardner's class and I liked Mrs Fralick;s history class.

School Story

I have fond memories of high school. My parents graduated from Brookland Cayce and my middle daughter came up to Columbia her senior year and also graduated from here. It was a wonderful but short experience for her but it was what she needed and it was fun for me to relieve some of my high school memories. The school hasn"t changed much from how I remember it. My kids couldnt believe girls had to wear dresses everyday except for one spring day when school annuals came out and we signed your annual. Does anyone remember the time a few guys came dressed in togas and they had a fit about that? I also remember the powderpuff football games that I played in every year except for my senior year and they had a basketball game instead. It got changed because the previous year a few of the girls sewed lace on the bottom of their jerseys and Rod, your dad the coach ,didnt like that. We were such rebels back then , LOL
